OM2 Fiber Optic Cables

OM2 Fiber is 50/125 Multimode Duplex. For a couple of decades now OM2 fiber has been installed and are still in demand to this day. Although OM3 and other faster standards have been developed shorter OM2 Zipcords can still deliver Gigabit Ethernet speeds reliably and up to 10 Gigabit in some situations (up to 82 Meters). What does 50/125 mean? - What this means is that the fiber core itself is smaller (50 microns) which is then wrapped with a protective outer cladding which is 125 microns in diameter. It is then wrapped again in a plastic jacket to protect the actual fiberglass inside, this typically gives multimode cable, or zipcord as it’s often called, an overall diameter of either 2.0mm or 3.0mm.
